The Embodied Reader helps readers discover new books. There is no commercial benefit from data collection, endorsements, advertising, or book sales.
We collect the minimum amount of information necessary to operate the platform, including your full name and email address. That's it. We don't ask for your birthday, phone number, physical address, payment details, or any other personal information, because we don't need it.
If you submit book information (title, author, and book solely to runshelf), we store that content and associate it with your account.
We use the information we collect only to:

Let you log in securely
Attribute your book submission to your profile
Communicate with you about your account or the platform (e.g., password resets, important updates)
Maintain the quality and integrity of the book catalog (e.g., moderating submissions)
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond running The Embodied Reader.
We do not sell your information. Ever, to anyone, for any reason.
We do not share your information with third parties. We don't use third-party analytics trackers, advertising networks, data brokers, or marketing partners.
We do not run ads on The Embodied Reader, and we don't share your data with anyone who does.
Any data you give us stays with us, solely to run this platform. Your account information (name and email) and any content you submit are stored securely.
Access: You can review the information associated with your account at any time.
Correction: You can update your name or email through your account settings.
Deletion: You may request that we delete your account and associated personal information at any time by contacting us. Note that a book you've recommended may remain on the website so the community can continue to benefit from it, unless you request otherwise.
Communication preferences: You can opt out of any non-essential emails at any time.
We use only the minimal technical mechanisms necessary to keep you logged in and the platform functioning (such as a session cookie). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or third-party analytics.
The Embodied Reader is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Are there transactions on this site?
No. If you wish to purchase a book, please support your favorite local bookstore or purchase from one of these online booksellers:
Can I save a list of books I want to read?
Yes. You have to log in to do so. Once logged in, any time you click “Save to My List,” the book will be added to your personal list. You can find your selections under “My List.”
Can I leave a review?
No. There are no reviews or user comments on the site.
How many books can I recommend?
Each user may make one recommendation. Recommendations remain anonymous.
Will my book appear on a bookshelf automatically?
No. The editor will vet books for appropriateness to the site. Book recommendations will appear on the site within a few days of submission.
What if my book recommendation has multiple themes?
Please choose one shelf that relates to the most prominent theme.
Should I describe the book I am recommending?
No. Basic book information is obtained from Amazon or the publisher because those descriptions are author-approved.
Do you let authors know their books appear on the site?
Yes. Whenever possible, authors will be notified that their books are included on the site.
Will my user information remain private?
Yes. Email addresses will never be shared with third parties.
